San Fran and the USS Iowa

Every time San Francisco seems to have pegged the moonbat dial, it seems to outdo itself. When given the opportunity to host the retired battleship USS Iowa as a museum, the city council rejected the offer. The reason?

…city supervisors voted 8-3 last month to oppose taking in the ship, citing local opposition to the Iraq war and the military's stance on gays, among other things.

"If I was going to commit any kind of money in recognition of war, then it should be toward peace, given what our war is in Iraq right now," Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi said.

Yes, instead of honoring the great ship, its sailors, and what it did, they'd rather poke the military in the eye because they don't approve of the current war. In at least Mr. Mirkarimi's case, because he doesn't approve of war at all and thinks comes about magically.

Let's look at the Iowa itself for a moment:
She transported FDR to Europe and back in 1942, the middle of WWII. She engaged the Japanese in many, many island and sea battles. She served in the Korean War and generally in the Cold War. She earned nine battle stars for her exploits.

Nice to know what San Fran thinks of the old girl and its role in pushing back tyranny. Fortunately, the city of Stockton, CA, (80 miles inland) is taking in the Iowa and is delighted to do so. At least its citizens seem to realize how much warships contribute to peace.
