The terrorist mastermind himself has released a new video and it looks authentic. I'm not exactly sure what he hopes to accomplish with this thing. If anything, I think it'll just irritate people and possibly spur them towards Bush. I've heard a couple people say that was his intent because he needs Bush as a Great Satan, but this doesn't wash. The Great Satan for his ilk is America specifically and the West generally. Who's president is irrelevant. A Kerry presidency, though, would certainly be in his interests since he would have a far less aggressive foreign policy than Bush. We'll have to see how this plays out.

The Red Sox win the World Series. Why not them?

The biggest benefit to come of this is for sports fans everywhere. Red Sox fans will now have to stop the whining about the Curse and blah, blah, blah. Not that I'm unsympathetic to their hardships but plenty of other teams out there also have good reason for complaint.

Congrats to them all the same! Ya gotta respect a team that comes back from a 0-3 deficit in a series to win it. Especially since it had never been done before.

So, the Boston area now has the reigning NFL champs in the Patriots and the MLB champs with the Red Sox. What's wrong with those slacker Celtics?

One Week

Unfortunately, I don't have much time to blog today due to work demands, but I will say this: I want the next week to go quickly so we can just get this election over with. My prediction: Bush will come out ahead, but not by much.

Smooch!
Fulfilling his part of the agreement that brought Bill Clinton out to campaign for him, Kerry bends down to kiss Bill's butt.

What Explosives?

Filed under: General — Dangerous Dan @ 11:37 pm

The big news today has been about the 380 tons of powerful explosives that disappeared from a site south of Baghdad. This was a story broken by the New York Times. Predictably, the Kerry campaign has been hitting the story hard and blaming Bush for not making sure the site was secure.

Now, according to NBC News, yes there were explosives there but they were already gone by the time the U.S. Army arrived to secure the site right after Iraq was liberated on 4/10/03. So A) the explosives were not missing due to negligence on the part of Bush, the Army, or anybody else and B) the Army did in fact arrive to secure the installation in a timely manner.

This means that Kerry's criticisms should blow back in his face and some folks at the Times have some 'splainin to do. The problem, of course, is if and when NBC's report is confirmed, the media will just drop the issue altogether instead of investigating any sort of negligence, or worse, malfeasance on anybody's part at the Times and it's very unlikely they'll put any effort into correcting the false story they've been propagating. Any effort they do put towards corrections will pale in comparison to the attention they gave to reporting the false story to begin with.

They have a really great ad at TheStakesAreHigh.org. I highly recommend watching it. Kerry admire Reagan? I don't think so.

The Chicago Way

Filed under: General — Dangerous Dan @ 11:41 am

The terrorists rounded up and executed a group of almost 50 Iraqi soldiers on their way home on leave. The troops may even have been given up by informants among them. These are the sorts of people we're dealing with. They're doing things the Chicago Way. Sometimes, I think we should try matching it.

The Chicago Way is from the movie, "The Untouchables." Sean Connery issues the following line to a cautious Elliot Ness (Kevin Costner):

"You wanna know how you do it? Here's how, they pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue! That's the Chicago way, and that's how you get Capone! Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that?"

Science at Work

This guy tried wearing a Kerry-Edwards shirt in Dem territory and a Bush-Cheney shirt in Repub land just to see what kind of reaction he got. The liberal look in the red areas didn't get much reaction from anybody. The conservative couture in the blue places, though, earned him some verbal hostility and plenty of people who just exhibited disgust. In the mindset of far too many liberals (not all, mind you, but far too many), conservatives come in two flavors: smart and evil or good but dumb/brainwashed. It's not clear which category the disgusted people thought the author fell into.

Could It Be…. SATAN?!

Filed under: General — Dangerous Dan @ 11:28 am

The British Royal Navy has approved the right for a Satanist to practice his religion aboard ship. I think the U.S. Navy has already done this but I'm not sure. A curiosity about the Church of Satan is that they don't actually believe in a devil. They're fairly atheistic and just use the devil imagery to put down Christianity. They do, however, believe in vengeance, lying, hedonism, etc., as virtues. That is, most things that we would consider negative, they consider positive. Thus, they take the character of Satan as their own personal role model. Which makes me wonder… would you really want to serve next to a guy on a war ship who thinks his own personal self-interest, which is meant to be achieved through dubious means, is itself paramount and who asks himself, "What would Satan do?"

It's a little over the top for me to consider it funny, but here's one question. Doesn't the characterture of Saddam look just a little too much like Gene Shalit?
